Problem
Gurugram, a major tech and corporate hub, has witnessed a dramatic surge in cybercrime. Complaints rose from about 11,282 in 2021 to 32,755 in 2023—more than tripling in two years.
In 2023, 650 cyber fraudsters were arrested, yet the city lost approximately ₹210 crore, with only ₹25 crore recovered.
Moreover, police uncovered ₹44.4 crore fraud tied to 16 suspects spanning across India who were based in Gurugram, highlighting its role as a cybercrime nerve center.
However, many cybercrimes go unreported or underreported—especially sextortion, data leaks, and identity fraud—due to low trust in enforcement and fear of social stigma.
